Needy

Thanks for all the reassuring comments yesterday. It's nice to know my blog is being read by great people. For now I've decided to just leave things as they are. I don't want to go through the hassle of having two separate blogs. But, if I have another bad experience, that is what I will have to do- a public crafts only blog and a private family blog. I'm also going to stop titling and tagging my family pictures on flickr. Really, that's how the guy found the picture of Brendan- he searched "broken leg". So, no more titles or tags that could lead people like that to my family's pictures.

Now, I need some more reassurance. Is this ugly?
Orange Strip Quilt

I have a moment in every quilt where I am convinced that I am making the ugliest thing on the planet. Usually that moment is pretty quick. It's kind of sticking around on this quilt. That's just a whole lot of orange. A whole lot.

VW Vans
Swimming Fish
Chickens
Backing and Binding

I am always on the lookout for quick baby gifts, considering half the women I know are pregnant. Seriously. I saw this post and thought it would be great for baby gifts. I pulled out scraps from these two quilts and made two quick quilt tops. Finished one completely but now I'm unsure. I know I like it. I'm just not sure its every one's taste. What would you think if you received this as a baby gift? I'm considering selling it instead. That way it would be guaranteed to suit the recipients tastes, at least.

Thanks ahead of time for any and all input.

I would totally buy this. I LOVE THIS QUILT! Okay, so orange is my favorite color, but seriously, you have chickens, fish, wiener dogs in sweaters and VW vans all together? I LOVE THIS QUILT.

Honestly, if you made a quilt for my baby, I would love it no matter what it looked like. However, if you want to sell it....ahem. That's an option too.

Oh, and I love that flower fabric, on the otherside of the polka dots from the chickens, that one. Love it.

It's bright and fun and happy. I love it.
Of course, I love all the stuff you make...you're so talented. I was so sad that I had class during your quilting enrichment meetings a few weeks ago.

Orange isn't even my favorite color, but I LOVE ORANGE QUILTS. If it were a gift for me, I'd love it.

But you have to know your recipient... if you think it would be better as a sale, go for that. No need for your hard work to go unnoticed!

It is adorable!
I love it and orange is in now. I agree with putting it up for sale if you have any questions about the recipient liking the brightness. I sure someone will fall in love with it.

Ugly never even entered my mind when I the first picture. I think it's adorable, but I am a dirty orange lover.
You should be able to change permissions on flickr so your photos are no loner searchable. That way people could no longer find your pictures through public site searches, although they still show up in the groups you put them in. Of course, not tagging or naming them is much easier.
I LOVE the orange in this quilt. Especially with the little bits of blue.

Momma's Got a (kind-of, sorta) Brand New Bag

I must be some sort of sadist. It seems the work and stress of getting a family of five all packed and ready for a big trip isn't enough for me. It's becoming tradition to also try and make myself a new complicated bag right before we leave. There was the Supertote before Disneyland. This time around it was the a messenger bag right before a 4,000 mile road trip.

(Photography and photo styling by my 10 year old, Anna.)

There was really no choice, though. My everyday Supertote is a year and a half old. It was definitely looking it. The handles were all frayed. One of the magnetic snaps had ripped out. It was dirty. It just would not do. I tried stores. Everything was too big, too small, too strappy, not strappy enough, too ugly, or too expensive. I guess making my own bags has made me pretty dang picky when it comes to purses.

This one, though. This one is pretty much the prefect size, the perfect strap, the perfect fabric, and plenty of pockets.

Something A Little Different

If you follow me on Instagram, you already know that for my birthday this week, I got a weaving loom of my very own. Specifically, a 15" Cricket Loom. There was some major happy dancing involved.

WooHoo! Thank goodness for the many YouTube videos which got me here! A photo posted by trinasdoings (@trinasdoings) on Jul 28, 2016 at 10:39am PDT
I spent all morning on my birthday watching YouTube instructional videos, putting it together, getting it warped, and starting my very first handwoven scarf using bits and pieces of yarn leftover from other projects.

Today I finished it.

Sure, it's got some issues. The edges are a bit wonky. The fringe went all fuzzy when I washed it. But, I love it. I love how thin and drap…

She was so happy and excited. It was a great day.

And then, today, the kids finally started school! Hallelujah!

The local school district went back to school like two and a half weeks ago. We've all been anxiously waiting for their charter school to start.

First grade for this guy and an empty house for me. Every summer I let his hair grow wild so that I can enjoy his curls. I was all ready to give him his standard back to school haircut until we went to meet his teacher. She went into raptures over his curls. So, they stayed. We'll see how long they last now that he has to face a squirt bottle and a bru…
