What I Would Like To Be Doing Today

All my active works in progress-

1. Starburst EPP-

As soon as I finished Sam's sweater, this became my handwork project of choice. Obsessively.

It's so pretty, how could I not just want to sit and work on it all day? I went from having a massive amount of diamonds prepared to only have two quarter rows left to go.

I've already got my next six rows all picked out. Unfortunately, I don't think I have enough fabric for any of them. So, this week I've either got to try and order more of the exact same fabrics or find replacement fabrics.

Right now it measures about 30" across. I'm refusing to think about how each row gets bigger and bigger and bigger. There's no denying that it's going to become ridiculously disheartening. But the finished project is going to be amazing so I just have to try and keep that in mind.

2. A Sweater for Ellery-

This one is pushing the definition of active project. I've got my pattern all printed out. My knitting needl…

Finished

I've got a couple of recent finishes to show off. First up, a baby quilt just because I like making baby quilts.

About a month ago, I was feeling a real lack of crafty mojo. I didn't know what to work on. Everything seemed too difficult, too expensive, too useless, or a potential ugly disaster. I couldn't seem to trust myself to make something good. One day I decided to sew anyway. I grabbed my bin of 3.5" square scraps and started pulling. I was mostly going for pink and girly. Lots of blues, greys and yellows snuck in too. By the end of the day, I had a finished quilt top and had regained some of my trust in myself.

I wanted something fun for the back, so I made a Swoon block sized down to 12 inches. So many little triangles! But, it turned out to be the perfect thing.

I haven't decided where this one is going yet. It will either end up on the top of the stack of baby quilts for future gift giving or the stack of quilts to donate to charity.

Scenes From A Birthday

I'm so glad that I started this blog so long ago. Today I'm using it to get all weepy and nostalgic about Sam.  Birth , First Week , Second Week , Rolling Over , Standing , First Birthday , 18 Months , Troublemaker , 2nd Birthday. I know, no one but me is going to want to wade through all those old baby pictures. But, there's some treasures in there- Sam's crazy long feet, curls, a very young looking Brendan, Ellery with her disintegrating blankie, elfin Anna. Awwwww. It's almost enough to make me forget how angry of a baby he was- colic, screaming, stubborn.

Anyway, enough nostalgia. On to the new stuff- Sam's Sixth Birthday!

No school meant plenty of time for a picnic and playing at the park.

He always ends up looking so serious and possibly grumpy in photos. Trust me, there was way more excitement over the presents than can be seen in these photos!
